Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery is considered one of the easiest ways of rectifying a person’s not so perfect features but the question is are there more pro’s or con’s to having cosmetic surgery and why do men and women feel the need to consider plastic surgery. Statistics show that there’s been a dramatic increase in the popularity of cosmetic procedures; many people would say that cosmetic surgery has become an accepted practice in today’s society but others would totally disagree with that statement.

Health Reasons, Vanity and Self Esteem are the three main reasons why women and men have cosmetic surgery. People that want to fix a problem which is causing health issues and surgery maybe the only option available, some people need surgery to survive but others use their status and money towards their vanity to make themselves as perfect as they can or want, a lot of the time it becomes an addiction or habit. There are many views for or against plastic surgery. Some would argue against cosmetic surgery by saying that it is unfair because only those who can afford it have access to it or the existence and availability of cosmetic surgery increases the pressure on women feeling that they must look perfect but the dangers of surgery are not worth the risk.

On the other hand others would argue for the use of plastic surgery, they would argue that people now have the right and freedom to choose how they look, also they would say the fact that in today society we’re constantly being judged on our appearance that it is perfectly acceptable to want to look good.

A big issue and reason a lot of women feel like they are not attractive as their natural selves feel this because of who women are portrayed in the Media and how we feel like society is judging us by appearances. The issue is should we or shouldn’t we care so much about what society think of us, the media is constantly giving out unrealistic images of what a female body should look like but every woman has their own unique look, yet the media likes to show what they believe is the universal women should look like. This issue is now also becoming common with men and how men in today’s society are pressured to all look a certain way.

An example of a Documentary which puts across a story where plastic surgery is being used for the right reasons is 'The Story of Katie Piper' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bjhbvl6_B_g).

( On the photos below is Katie Piper, a former model and television presenter who in March 2008 had sulfuric acid thrown in her face. The attack, which blinded her in one eye, was arranged by her ex-boyfriend and carried out by an accomplice, who were later both arrested and are serving life sentences in prison).

Animal Testing

=Animal Testing, there are many pros and cons opinions and views on the practice of animal testing. Unfortunately, neither the pros nor cons seem to tip the scale fully to a side that everyone agrees with, this being the general public, government and scientists. The major positive thing on animal testing is that it allows researchers and scientists in finding drugs and treatments to improve health and medicine for humans as well as animals.

Cancer drugs and HIV drugs, insulin, antibiotics and vaccines are all medical treatments which have been made possible by animal testing. Because of this animal testing is considered very important for improving human health and it is why some members of the public support its use. But there can be cases where there are people who don’t agree with animal testing for cosmetic and beauty reasons but these individuals could still support animal testing for medicine and the development of new drugs.

The biggest negative point in the whole process of animal testing is that many experiments are practiced on these animals and countless animals are then killed after their use, and a lot of the time they are injured from these tests and will still live the rest of their lives in captivity. There is also the argument that the reaction an animal's body can have to the drugs is quite different from the reaction a human could have to the drug, so some people may believe that animal testing is unreliable.

Abortion

Abortion is one of the most controversial topics in the United Kingdom and it is a hugely talked about issue worldwide. Abortion has many problems and issues surrounding it which brings controversy to our society, different religions have different views of abortion and different people within those religions have different views on it too. Governments around the world have made choices in its legal status and in some countries it is complete banned.

Abortion has many ethical and social issues. Many people believe that abortion is the equivalent of killing a baby which isn't wanted, they say it is wrong to do it and that it should not be allowed, whereas other people debate that when the abortion occurs it is still a fetes or embryo and that it is not a baby, meaning therefore it should not be named as murder and that there is nothing wrong with stopping a pregnancy with abortion. The main argument and controversy around abortion revolves around if and when do the fetes or embryo become a human being, and therefore when does abortion become murder?

Different religions all have their views on whether abortion is right or not, but most religions believe that abortion is the killing of a life and that under their religions all life is precious and a gift of God and therefore killing that or stopping the process into that life is wrong.
